The School of Pharmacy is the school with the richest history in China Pharmaceutical University. The school is composed of four departments (Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Analysis, and Pharmacology) and a teaching centre for pharmaceutical experiments). Over the past 80 years, a number of famous experts and scholars, such as Peng Sixun (academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), Liao Qingjiang (medicinal chemist), Liu Guojie (pharmacologist), and An Dengkui, (pharmaceutical analyst), have been engaged in teaching and scientific research in our school and have made significant contributions.
The school has a first-class teaching and research team led by famous experts and scholars such as recipients of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and the Distinguished Professors of Changjiang Scholar Program of Ministry of Education of China, and backed by those talents awarded by provincial and ministerial-level programmes such as the Distinguished Young Scholars of Jiangsu Province, and the team selected to Jiangsu Shuangchuang Plan. As of today, our school has 273 faculty and professional staff, including 171 full-time faculty members (85 professors and 75 associate professors). Among these academics, 75 are accredited for academic doctoral postgraduate supervision, 16 for professional doctoral postgraduate supervision, 127 for academic master postgraduate supervision, 122 for professional master postgraduate supervision. Our school have attracted many excellent scholars, including 5 national high-level talents, 13 national high-level young talents, 1 candidate of the National Ten Million Talents Project, 1 national model teacher, and over 100 provincial and ministerial talents.
The school of pharmacy is the lead for the construction of national-level disciplines of pharmacy in CPU, and has made important contributions to the construction and development of Double first-class disciplines in our university. The discipline of Pharmacy (Pharmaceutical Sciences) has achieved excellent results in the fourth and fifth rounds of national discipline assessment, ranking the first class in China. In parallel, this discipline has obtained excellent results in the first national professional degree programme assessment. Accordingly, it has been selected as one of the Construction Project of Superior Disciplines of Jiangsu Colleges and Universities three times consecutively.
Recent years have witnessed the remarkable growth of our school. We have published over 1300 articles on SCI-Indexed journals. Among them, nearly 300 were published on multidisciplinary top journals, including Nat Methods, Nat Cell Biol, Cell Metab, Nat Commun, PNAS, Adv Mat, JACS, Angew Chem Int Ed, JMC, JCR, AC, BJP, and DMD. We have signed over 1000 contracts with national wide partners, for example, government departments at all levels and industrial businesses, for new drug R&D services. Among them, more than 20 new drug R&D programmes have resulted in translational outcomes, with a total contractual funding of nearly 1 billion RMB. Since 2018, the school has seen a steady increase in research funding, breaking $100 million RMB for the fifth consecutive year.
Our school endeavor to carry out international cooperation and exchanges in multiple ways and dimensions to boost our international visibility and impact. In 2018, we hosted the First International Forum for Pharmacy School Development , which attracted nearly 40 deans of pharmacy schools globally. The school has set the 111 Programme, an international collaboration programme supported by the Ministry of Education and Administration of Foreign Experts. The school has scholar visiting programmes with nearly 30 universities in 12 countries and regions. and cooperated with the University of Southern California and Ohio State University to develop exchange programmes for students. Our school offers 14 English courses for international students, and 10 international open courses for global students. The school has supported nearly 60 scholars to visit overseas institutions, and more than 300 students have benefited from overseas exchange and visiting study.
