October 13 marks the inaugural meeting of Global Alliance for the Development of Pharmaceutical Science. It was successfully held in Nanjing. At the meeting, the Global Alliance for the Development of Pharmaceutical Science (GAPS) was initiated and inaugurated by our university. President Hao Haiping, Vice President Kong Lingyi, Yao Hequan and other leaders attended the meeting. Vice President Kong Lingyi introduced the establishment of the Global Alliance for The Development of Pharmaceutical Science (hereinafter referred to as the Alliance).
It is an academic, unofficial and non-profit organization voluntarily formed by Chinese and foreign universities, enterprises and research institutes with leading advantages in the field of biomedical development and a common development vision, and it is also the first international pharmacy professional alliance initiated by universities in China. With the aim of openness and cooperation, education, innovation and development, and sharing the future together, the Alliance is committed to establishing a global platform for exchanges and cooperation in education, science and technology, and talents training in the domain of medicine and health among the Alliance members. Further, it is dedicated to promoting closer partnerships across the member colleges or universities, nonprofit governmental organizations, and the industry, in order to foster the sustainability of pharmacy schools around the world, to lead the revolution in biotechnology, and to contribute to the well-being of mankind. The first group of alliance members come from 36 universities from 14 countries around the world, including China, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. The inaugural chair is China Pharmaceutical University (CPU), which led the launch of the alliance, and the first chair is Professor Hao Haiping, President of CPU.
President Hao Haiping delivered a speech as the first chairman of the alliance. He points out that it is the shared mission of every single pharmacy school to serve the health and welfare of all mankind. The inauguration of this alliance is of great significance, as the backbone of the pharmacy schools united, closely aligned with the needs of society, leading the times and achieving sustainable development of pharmacy education. In the future, the alliance will promote the establishment of a special fund for alliance partners, carry out special exchange programs for students and teachers, strengthen the complementarity of resources, promote multilateral research cooperation, and apply for international research cooperation projects between governments. In addition, the Alliance will leverage the scale and supply chain advantages of local Chinese pharmaceutical companies to promote industry cooperation and explore innovative paths for cross-border translation and commercialization of research results. He hopes that the global pharmacy schools can seek common ground while reserving differences and build up a consensus for development; co-operate in good faith and share resources for development; and innovate and explore growth points for co-operation. Still, he expects all parties to work together to boost the development of the alliance and achieve new contributions to the human health.
Prior to the inauguration of the Alliance, President Hao Haiping also made an invited report titled Pharmaceutical Education and Research at CPU, and had an in-depth exchange and discussion with experts and scholars. President Hao said that in the future, CPU would take the lead in uniting the world's top universities and top talents in the fields of pharmacy education and research to explore the future needs of biopharmaceutical technology and talent training. In addition, by strengthening dialogue and cooperation and participating in global pharmacy education governance, we would further expand the global influence of China's pharmacy education and research, and offer China’s wisdom and solutions to build a global community of health for all mankind.
The Nanjing Consensus on Global Pharmacy Education Development (hereinafter referred to as the Consensus) was officially released at the closing ceremony of the Alliance. The Consensus states that health has no national boundaries. Human beings are facing unprecedented challenges in the field of health, while the development of life sciences and artificial intelligence brings new opportunities for the reform and development of global pharmacy schools. Global pharmacy schools should join hands to promote mutual understanding, seek common ground while reserving differences, strengthen cooperation, and work together to enhance human health and well-being.
