Our School Delegation Visits Australia

At the invitation of Australian partner universities, Vice President Yao Hequan of CPU and his delegation visited Australia from 22 to 25 September. The delegation held talks with the School of Pharmacy at University of Sydney, School of Pharmacy at Monash University and other prominent pharmacy schools to discuss cooperation matters, carry out recruitment of overseas high-level talents. Still, the delegation attended the 81st Annual Meeting of the International Pharmaceutical Federation FIP. The visit had a full-schedule and fruitful achievements.

On 22 September, the delegation arrived in Sydney and visited the School of Pharmacy at the University of Sydney. The University of Sydney's School of Pharmacy has had an in-depth collaboration with our school for many years. The delegation discussed with the School of Pharmacy of University of Sydney on matters such as graduation design of off-site undergraduates, summer exchange programs, open courses, etc., and both sides agreed to start the visiting program for pharmacy-related students. The School of Pharmacy at the University of Sydney expressed their appreciation and strong interest in the initiation of the Global Alliance for the Development of Pharmacy Schools by CPU. They delivered their sincere thanks and accepted the invitation to send its representatives to Nanjing to participate in the Second Global Symposium on the Development of Pharmacy Schools, which will be held from 12 to 14 October. After the meeting, Professor Andrew McLachlan, Dean of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Sydney, organized a special reception for the delegation, which was attended by Sydney professors and student representatives.

The 81st Annual Meeting of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) was held in Brisbane, Australia, on 24 September. It has attracted nearly 2,000 delegates from more than 90 countries and regions around the world. As members of FIP, both our university and the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association sent delegations to participate in this great gathering. Several doctoral students from our school, including Xie Shaowen, Li Xinnan, Xie Like, Han Luyao from the School of Pharmacy, the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science Research, and the School of Basic Medicine and Clinical Pharmacy, presented their outstanding research achievements through wall paper presentations.

During their stay in Brisbane, the delegation also held a talent policy promotion and alumni meeting at the University of Queensland. Prof. Yao Hequan, Vice President of CPU, gave a detailed introduction to the development process, current situation, and development philosophy of CPU to the attending scholars, and expressed his gratitude to our alumni from various regions for their care and support for the alma mater on behalf of CPU. He welcomed scholars to explore their careers at CPU. Wu Zhaoqiu, vice dean of our school, carefully interpreted our school's high-level talent policy and demonstrated the school's emphasis on talent work, sincere attitude towards talent, and powerful strength to help new comers carry out work quickly with his personal and other experience in recent years. The event attracted more than 20 scholars and alumni from Brisbane and other cities such as Melbourne and the Gold Coast to participate, and this on-site interaction had a relax and warm vibe.

On September 25th, during the FIP meeting, Professor Arthur Christopoulos, Dean of the School of Pharmacy at Monash University, academician of the Australian Academy of Sciences, and leaders of the School of Pharmacy warmly met in Brisbane to receive our school delegation. The School of Pharmacy at Monash University has established a long-term cooperation with our school in areas such as undergraduate 2.5+2 joint training, doctoral student and teacher exchange. During the meeting, both parties expressed strong willingness to cooperate with MOOC (China) - MyDispense (Australia) on the joint open courses, undergraduate visits and exchanges, graduate joint training, and new drug research for clinical transformation. They unanimously agreed to continue promoting the implementation of joint training for students. Professor Paul White, Executive Vice President in charge of international cooperation at School of Pharmacy at Monash University, once again thanked and accepted our invitation to participate in the Second Global Symposium on the Development of Pharmacy Schools, which would be held in Nanjing in a few weeks.

Prof. Xu Jinyi from the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at our School, and Prof. Sun Jianguo from the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences led multiple doctoral students to Australia to attend the FIP annual conference and participate in activities together such as visiting the University of Sydney. This visit not only further consolidates the exchange and cooperation between our school and top universities in Australia, but also strengthens the communication and connection with high-level talents and alumni from overseas, successfully accomplishing all the visit tasks.
